RD Congo: a European club reignites interest in Chancel Mbemba

Chancel Mbemba is edging closer to a return to Anderlecht, but the LOSC defender prefers to wait until after the World Cup before making a decision about his future.

The prospect of Chancel Mbemba returning to RSC Anderlecht is gaining momentum. According to Sacha Tavolieri, the Brussels club has recently renewed contact with the LOSC Lille defender, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, with several discussions already underway.

Mbemba, who came through the ranks at Anderlecht, still feels a strong connection to Brussels, but is holding off. The Congolese international, who has qualified for the 2026 World Cup with DR Congo, prefers to wait until after the tournament before deciding his future, despite interest from clubs in both Europe and the Middle East.

In Lille, the situation has grown tense in recent weeks. President Olivier Létang commented:

"The case is already in the hands of FIFA's disciplinary committee, as it sets a very dangerous precedent for all clubs."

This context makes a contract extension seem increasingly unlikely.
