Real Madrid: Alonso appoints penalty taker for the 2025-2026 season!
Real Madrid is gearing up to kick off their 2025-2026 campaign against Osasuna on August 19, with one burning question on everyone's mind: who will take charge of penalties after last season's string of missed opportunities?
Marca: Alonso puts his trust in Mbappé for penalties!
According to Spanish daily Marca, manager Xabi Alonso has made his decision: Kylian Mbappé will be the designated penalty taker for Real Madrid this season. Despite a few misses last term, the Madrid boss continues to put his faith in the French superstar.
Since the start of his career, whether at Monaco, PSG, Real Madrid or with the French national team, Mbappé has converted 50 penalties out of 63 attempts—a success rate just shy of 79.3%.
For comparison, Vinícius Jr's success rate stands at just 66%, further cementing Mbappé as the clear front-runner for this high-pressure role.
Last season, Real Madrid were awarded 19 penalties but missed more than a third of them, reigniting debate over who should shoulder the responsibility in these pivotal moments.
