Rulani Mokwena continued his strong start in the Egyptian Premier League as Pyramids FC beat newly promoted Abo Qir Semad 2-0 on Thursday evening.

The 2025 African champions opened the scoring on the stroke of halftime through Youssef Obama, heading into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Highy-rated Jordanian youngster Odeh Fakhouri doubled the cushion three minutes into the second half, for his second league goal of the season.

Mokwena's men held on for the maximum points at home, making it two games unbeaten, having overcome Ghaz Al Mahalla 3-0 in the league opener.

Pyramids sit at the summit of the Egyptian Premier League standings with six points amassed in the opening two outings, and have a superior goal difference.

Appointed last month to succeed Krunoslav Jurcic, Mokwena has been tasked with winning the league title and clinching domestic cup titles.

Furthermore, the South African mentor is also expected to lift the coveted CAF Champions League trophy, which is the ultimate prize at Pyramids.

Whether Mokwena will achieve the targets remains to be seen, as his troops visit Al Masry SC in their next league outing on Monday, 31 August.

Notably, Al Masry are currently in second place on the log standings, setting up an intriguing top-of-the-table clash against Pyramids.
