Spain: Luis de la Fuente unveils first squad since world title

Luis de la Fuente has named a 26-player squad for Spain’s first international break since their world title triumph in July.

Two months after their triumph at the 2026 World Cup, Spain are already back in action. Luis de la Fuente unveiled his first squad since the world title won against Argentina this Friday, with 26 players selected for the upcoming international break.

La Roja will play four Nations League matches: against England on September 26, Croatia on September 29 and October 6, and the Czech Republic on October 3.

Spain’s full squad

Goalkeepers: Unai Simón, David Raya, Josep Martínez.

Defenders: Pedro Porro, Eric García, Marc Pubill, Pau Cubarsí, Dean Huijsen, Aymeric Laporte, Marc Cucurella, Alejandro Grimaldo.

Midfielders: Rodri, Pedri, Fabián Ruiz, Mikel Merino, Martín Zubimendi, Dani Olmo, Fermín López.

Forwards: Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, Nico Williams, Víctor Muñoz, Álex Baena, Mikel Oyarzabal, Yeremy Pino, Roberto Fernández.

Spain remain unbeaten since their world title

At the 2026 World Cup, Luis de la Fuente’s men put together an almost perfect campaign: a 0-0 draw against Cape Verde in their opening match, followed by seven consecutive wins through to the final. Spain notably eliminated Austria, Portugal, Belgium and France before beating Argentina 1-0 after extra time on July 19.

This world title extended an exceptional period for the Spanish national team. La Roja are also the reigning European champions after their success at Euro 2024, where they won all seven of their matches, including the final against England (2-1).

The Nations League to return to competitive action

This September-October international break therefore marks Spain’s first camp since their world title. Four competitive matches are scheduled over 11 days, beginning with a meeting against England before a double-header against Croatia and a match against the Czech Republic.
