Vinicius Jr supports Lamine Yamal after racist chants in Spain vs Egypt friendly

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has shown support for Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal after racist chants were reported during Spain’s 0-0 friendly draw against Egypt on Tuesday 31 March at Espanyol’s stadium in Catalonia.

Chants overshadow goalless encounter

The match itself ended without goals, but attention quickly shifted to events in the stands. Reports indicated that sections of the crowd directed offensive chants during the Egyptian national anthem including remarks targeting Muslims.

The situation drew a reaction from Lamine Yamal who addressed the incident publicly following the match. Although he clarified that the chants were not personally aimed at him, he made it clear that their nature was unacceptable.

Yamal speaks out

In a post shared on Instagram, the Barcelona winger condemned the behavior in direct terms.

“I am Muslim, alhamdulillah. Yesterday at the stadium an offensive chant was heard. I know it was aimed at the opposing team and not at me personally but as a Muslim, I consider it inappropriate and unacceptable” Yamal wrote.

He went further criticizing the use of religion as a form of mockery.

“Using religion to insult people in a stadium shows ignorance and racism. Football is for enjoyment and support, not for attacking people because of who they are or what they believe”

Vinicius shows solidarity

Vinicius Junior who has repeatedly spoken out against racism during his career in Spain, reacted to Yamal’s post by liking it .. a small but significant gesture given his own experiences with abuse in stadiums.

The Brazilian has been one of the most vocal players in world football on issues of discrimination and his support for Yamal reflects growing sense of unity among players confronting such incidents.
