A crucial Group G opener
The Pharaohs will launch their 2026 campaign against European heavyweights Belgium on June 15 at 19:00 GMT.
Stationed in a fiercely competitive Group G alongside Iran and New Zealand, both squads desperately need an early victory to build momentum.
The officiating crew revealed
According to the official announcement by FIFA, Abatti will be supported by a primarily South American team.
Fellow Brazilians Danilo Manis and Rafael Alves will serve as assistant referees while Peru's Kevin Ortega takes on the fourth official duties. Michael Orué, also from Peru, is listed as the reserve assistant.
Interestingly the governing body has temporarily delayed the announcement of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) officials for this matchup.
A track record of dismissals
Securing his international badge in 2023, the 36 year old Brazilian has rapidly climbed the refereeing ranks.
Abatti recently officiated the Paris 2024 Olympic final where Spain triumphed over France. He also took charge of three intense fixtures during the 2025 Club World Cup, including matches featuring Real Madrid and Manchester City, notably issuing a red card in every single game.
Across his 313 game career, he has handed out 1,436 yellow cards, 62 straight dismissals, 17 double-yellows and awarded 79 penalties.
