The Women's Africa Cup of Nations kicks off its fourth day of competition this Wednesday with Group D stepping into the spotlight. Four teams begin their campaigns, each aiming to grab all three points and edge closer to the quarterfinals.

Ghana favorites against Cape Verde, a one-sided clash on paper

At 4pm at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, Ghana's Black Queens take on Cape Verde. Ghana enter with confidence. Third place finishers at the last AFCON and three-time finalists, the Black Queens have had a strong buildup—netting 13 goals and keeping five clean sheets in six friendlies against Hong Kong, Russia, Ivory Coast, and Malawi. Their defense looks rock solid.

On the other side, Cape Verde are living the dream. Qualifying for the first time in October 2025 after knocking out Guinea and Mali, the Blue Sharks are eager to make their mark. But their recent run raises concerns. In four friendlies, they've suffered three defeats and a draw, failed to score a single goal, and conceded 11, including heavy 5-0 and 3-0 losses to Morocco. They'll need to raise their game dramatically.

Cameroon vs Mali, an intense showdown

At 8pm GMT at Larbi Zaouli Stadium, it's time for a clash of titans. The Indomitable Lionesses take on the Lady Eagles. Cameroon are a force to be reckoned with: 13 appearances and three finals. They beat Nigeria 1-0 in February before losing the return leg 3-1. Strong but sometimes inconsistent, the Lionesses missed out on direct qualification but were handed a lifeline when the tournament expanded to 16 teams.

Mali are making their second consecutive AFCON appearance and ninth overall. The team is known for its compact shape and technical style. Back in 2018, when the Lady Eagles reached the semifinals, they lost twice to Cameroon—2-1 and 4-2. Under Birama Konaté, Mali are determined to take things to the next level.
