The journey ends for Burkina Faso at the 2026 Women's AFCON. South Africa clinched a narrow 1-0 win in Casablanca, securing second place in Group B. In the other match, Tanzania fell 1-2 to Côte d’Ivoire.

Kgatlana makes the difference

In the 21st minute, following a pinpoint assist from Fikile Magama, Thembi Kgatlana found the back of the net. That lone goal was all South Africa needed to celebrate at Stade Moulay Rachid. After a rocky start—a 1-2 defeat to Tanzania and then a 2-2 draw with Côte d’Ivoire—the 2022 champions finished the job with trademark composure. Solid and experienced, they claimed the qualifying spot thanks to this hard-fought victory.

Burkina Faso fall short

The Stallions Ladies believed until the end. The story could have been even sweeter. Sitting second before the matchday, they needed a result. When Côte d’Ivoire took the lead against Tanzania, an equaliser from the Stallions Ladies would have opened the door for Burkina Faso. But it wasn’t to be.

Despite the 1-0 defeat, Burkina Faso leaves the tournament with heads held high. After a 1-4 opening loss to their Ivorian neighbors, the squad bounced back and earned their first-ever win in the finals, a 2-1 victory over Tanzania. A new chapter in their history has been written.
