2026 World Cup – Germany: Oliver Kahn slams the players

Just days after Germany’s elimination by Paraguay (1-1, 3-4 on penalties) in the round of 16 of this 2026 World Cup, Oliver Kahn has brought the Nationalmannschaft’s problems into the spotlight.

For him, the real issue goes far beyond the coach’s role. Oliver Kahn mainly points the finger at the players’ attitude.

"Three coaches have failed at the same stage: Joachim Löw, Hansi Flick, and Julian Nagelsmann. Three different footballing philosophies, three different management styles. If three coaches fail in the same place, the cause runs deeper. During the penalty shootout, seeing Joshua Kimmich looking for volunteers to take a spot kick was the most telling moment. A great team doesn’t look for volunteers at that point," the former goalkeeper stated on his Linkedin account.

According to Kahn, the main problem lies elsewhere: "Talent gets you to the World Cup. Responsibility determines how long you stay there."
