After the 2026 World Cup, Egypt submits a proposal to CAF

Riding the wave of Africa's performances at the 2026 World Cup, Egypt has officially requested that CAF increase the number of clubs participating in the Champions League and Confederation Cup.

The 2026 World Cup may have repercussions far beyond the American pitches. Indeed, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has announced that it has approached the Confederation of African Football to demand an increase in the number of clubs competing in both the Champions League and the Confederation Cup.

In a statement, the body led by Hany Abo Rida explained that this initiative comes "in light of the performances achieved by African federations that participated in the 2026 World Cup". The EFA believes that African football's progress deserves greater representation on the continental stage.

Moreover, the Egyptian federation specified that "this proposal calls for granting an additional spot to every member federation, with the allocation of these quotas based on CAF's current ranking criteria and regulations". A request that could reshape the African interclub competitions in the coming seasons.
