Barcelona: president Joan Laporta waxes lyrical about Lamine Yamal

For football lovers, it has been difficult not to succumb to Lamine Yamal's footballing charm in recent years. At FC Barcelona, he has won everyone over.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is delighted to be able to count on such an entertaining player. "Lamine knows how to do all that, and on top of that he has the spectacular dimension. He is a player who knows how to entertain the supporters. Lamine is a genius! He has that magic within him, that spectacular character. There is his way of playing, but also his mentality. Lamine is entertainment. At the moment, football cannot be imagined without Lamine. He feels loved here, which is important for a player of his level. He is growing and maturing. He was 15 for his first match, now he is 19, almost a veteran already," Laporta told L'Equipe.

Laporta mocks Mbappé

Since the signing of Kylian Mbappé (27, 9 matches and 9 goals in La Liga this season) in 2024, Real Madrid have not won a trophy on the domestic stage and have failed to make an impression in the Champions League. According to FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, the arrival of the French striker was doomed to fail.

🚨 Barça president Laporta on Mbappé to Real Madrid: “I said it! Having more than one rooster in the same chicken coop can't work, never”. “The priority in football is the team and the spirit of the team. If you don't have these things, the project won't work”. “This is one of Barcelona's strengths. We do have great talents, La Masía players, players who come from other football cultures, and then manage to form a team among them with harmony that works well”. “And that thanks to a great coach, Hansi Flick, and also to a sports director, Deco, who works to improve this team”, told L’Équipe.

"Having more than one rooster in the same chicken coop cannot work, ever. The priority in football is the team and the team spirit. If you don't have that, the project does not work. (...) I believe Real Madrid have lost credibility and are trying by every means to justify all this by lying about the Negreira case, because they have won nothing for two years. We are winning and we are candidates to win everything," the Catalan president declared in the pages of L'Equipe.
