BREAKING: PSL coach bites the dust
Betway Premiership outfit Marumo Gallants have announced the parting of ways with head coach Phuti Mohafe and assistant coach Musa Bilankulu after a tough start to the 2026/27 campaign.
The 52-year-old mentor took over the reins at Bahlabane Ba Ntwa ahead of the current season after severing ties with Polokwane City, where he established himself as one of the finest tacticians in the country.
His spell at Gallants, however, was underwhelming as the club failed to register a win in the opening five matches in the league, settling for three defeats and two draws, which has the team precariously sitting in 15th place.
“Marumo Gallants FC confirms that the Club parted ways with Head Coach Phuti Mohafe and Assistant Coach Musa Bilankulu, with immediate effect,” read the statement from Gallants.
"The club will not be commenting further on the circumstances surrounding the decision or engaging on the merits of the matter.
"In the interim, Second Assistant Coach Trevor Mathiane will assume responsibility as interim Head Coach, while the Club continues its search for a new Head Coach.
"Marumo Gallants FC remains focused on ensuring continuity within the team and maintaining its preparations and commitments for the remainder of the season.
"Meanwhile, the club confirms that it has secured the services of Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko on loan from Orlando Pirates, following the departure of Bheki Mabuza, who has joined Orlando Pirates.
"The Club thanks its supporters, partners, and stakeholders for their continued support and will provide further updates when appropriate.
Gallants are reportedly in talks to appoint Bulgarian mentor Dimitar Pantev, who is currently unattached after he was sacked by Tanzanian giants Simba SC in December 2025, before a brief spell at Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana.
