Brighton close to signing Azzedine Ounahi
English club Brighton have entered advanced negotiations with Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi, the Olympique de Marseille midfielder, after a convincing loan spell at Panathinaikos (Greece).
At 25 years old, Ounahi has rediscovered his best form in the Greek Super League after a challenging period in Ligue 1. He featured in 37 matches, scored 5 goals, and provided 7 assists, earning the title of his team's best player as voted by the fans.
Although Panathinaikos would like to activate the purchase option set at €11.5 million, this amount is proving to be a stumbling block in sealing the deal.
A verbal agreement already reached between OM and Brighton
According to several French media outlets, including Foot Mercato, Brighton have been tracking Ounahi since his breakthrough at the 2022 World Cup with Morocco. The same sources report that a verbal agreement has been reached between the English club and OM. In addition, direct talks have already taken place with the player, who is very enthusiastic about the prospect of playing in the Premier League.
On his side, Ounahi reportedly does not feature in the plans of Marseille's new manager, Italian Roberto De Zerbi, which increases the likelihood of a summer departure. The player is also keen to remain in Europe in order to retain his place with the Atlas Lions national team.
