Champions League: Arsenal snatch a draw against Bayer Leverkusen
Traveling to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday night, Arsenal could only manage a narrow draw on the German side's turf (1-1).
Lacking inspiration, Arsenal's Gunners will be relieved with the result. Touted as one of this season's Champions League favorites, the London club had to wait until the dying minutes to salvage a draw at Bayer Leverkusen (1-1). This match was part of the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16.
Bayer Leverkusen kept their opponents well contained in the first half, then struck early after the break with a headed goal from Andrich off a corner (46'). Bereft of ideas, the Gunners eventually grabbed a draw thanks to a very generous penalty, awarded after a slight contact from Tillman on Madueke. Havertz made no mistake and slotted home the equalizer (89').
The qualification will be decided next Tuesday at the Emirates Stadium.
