Videos circulating on social media show several Feyenoord supporters making gestures resembling monkey imitations towards FC Barcelona supporters.

The meeting between FC Barcelona and Feyenoord, played on Wednesday evening in the Champions League, was marked by controversial scenes in the stands. Several videos circulating on social media appear to show supporters of the Dutch club making racist gestures towards Barcelona fans.

Monkey gestures filmed in the away section

One of the videos, shared on X by Esia, an FC Barcelona supporter, shows a fan in the Feyenoord away section making movements resembling a monkey imitation towards Barça supporters. Another video circulating online appears to show another Feyenoord supporter behaving in a similar manner.

The footage sparked numerous reactions on social media. Esia expressed his outrage over the incident, writing: “Being mocked in 2026 because of a football match, what a shame!”

Other accounts posted after the match also reported racist insults and monkey chants allegedly directed at FC Barcelona supporters. Some posts also mentioned objects being thrown from the away section. However, these claims are based on testimonies and statements shared on social media and should not be presented as established facts without independent confirmation.

Footage could be sent to UEFA

FC Barcelona is reportedly aware of the situation and could forward the videos to UEFA so that the footage can be examined. Any potential disciplinary proceedings would then depend on the findings and assessment of the relevant authorities.

The scenes come in a context where UEFA regularly sanctions discriminatory behaviour in its competitions. However, any responsibility will have to be established based on the available footage and the official reports from the match.

A heavy defeat for Feyenoord

On the pitch, Feyenoord also endured a difficult evening. The Dutch club suffered a 5-1 defeat to FC Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Champions League.

Barça quickly took control of the match before extending their lead as the game progressed. Feyenoord managed to pull one back through Sem Steijn, but the Catalan side ultimately regained control and secured a convincing victory.

It was therefore a particularly difficult evening for the Dutch club, with some of its supporters potentially facing disciplinary scrutiny if the footage of the alleged behaviour is officially submitted to the European authorities.
