Chelsea: Estêvão wants out!
Restricted to a secondary role at Chelsea, Estêvão could request a transfer if his situation continues. The Sun raised this possibility after the elimination by Liverpool.
The substitutes’ bench could eventually push Estêvão to seek a way out. According to The Sun, the Chelsea winger could ask to leave Stamford Bridge if Xabi Alonso continues to give him so little playing time. At 19, the Brazilian remains far from a regular role.
Transfer request mentioned after Liverpool
On Wednesday, October 28, Estêvão did not play a single minute in the Blues’ elimination by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. Despite the absences of Cole Palmer and João Pedro, Alonso left him on the bench for the entire match.
The British newspaper believes that this situation could lead to a transfer request. However, it does not report any official action by the player. The possibility of a departure therefore remains dependent on how his role develops in the coming weeks.
Eight matches, no goals and no assists
Opta’s statistics illustrate his limited use this season: Estêvão has played 47 minutes in six substitute appearances in the Premier League, without starting a single match. In the League Cup, he started two games and played 126 minutes.
His combined record in these two competitions therefore stands at 173 minutes in eight appearances, with zero goals and zero assists. His two starts came in the Cup, a competition Chelsea have just exited.
Alonso explains his choices, Barça already attentive
In comments reported by The Independent after the match at Anfield, Alonso explained that physical issues affecting Maxence Lacroix, Moisés Caicedo and Malo Gusto had forced his substitutions. He also insisted that the length of the season would provide opportunities for everyone.
Estêvão’s situation is already attracting attention from elsewhere. In September, Barça’s interest in the young winger was reported based on information from Sport. This does not mean that FC Barcelona have opened negotiations, but it highlights the attention surrounding a talent whose main aim is to play more.
