DRC: Véron Mosengo-Omba officially enters the race for the Federation presidency

The race for the presidency of the Congolese Football Association Federation (FECOFA) takes on a new dimension with the official entry of Véron Mosengo-Omba. The former Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and ex-FIFA official submitted his candidacy on the night of April 21, 2026, confirming his ambition to lead Congolese football.

This submission comes at the official close of the candidacy process ahead of the extraordinary and elective General Assembly scheduled for May 20, 2026. The election promises to be fiercely contested, with several prominent figures from Congolese and African football in the running.

Among the confirmed candidates are Shabani Nonda, former Leopards international and ex-AS Monaco player, who champions a project focused on transparency and reform. Aziz Makukula, another former international, advocates for a vision centered around former players. Max Mayaka, former DCMP executive and co-founder of FC Renaissance, is also in the running, as are Lord Ndiwa Kanganal and Kevin Issa, whose files were validated on April 21.

The Electoral Commission will now examine the applications before publishing the final list of approved candidates, a decisive step toward a hotly anticipated vote.
