End of the journey between Wydad and Mokwena: it's official!
The board of directors of Wydad Casablanca, chaired by Hicham Aït Mana, has decided to end its collaboration with South African coach Rulani Mokwena. He has been granted special leave, ending after the team's last league match, at his request, due to the psychological pressures he has recently faced.
Wydad's season has been challenging, marked by disappointing results. Currently, the club is in third place in the league with 45 points, far behind Raja Casablanca, and has yet to secure its qualification for the CAF Champions League.
Furthermore, the team was prematurely eliminated from the King's Cup, following their defeat against Moghreb de Tetouan in the quarter-finals.
Official statement from Wydad regarding Rulani Mokwena!
The club's official statement reads as follows:
“The board of directors of Wydad Athletic Club, following the request of first-team coach Rulani Mokwena, announces that he has been granted special leave, which will extend until after the team's last league match, due to the significant psychological pressures he has faced recently.
The Wydad management specifies that the termination of the contractual relationship with Rulani Mokwena will be officially executed at the end of the season, in accordance with the contract terms. It emphasizes that this decision will not result in any financial compensation, except for the payment of due monthly salaries.
Consequently, the management has entrusted the management of the first team to the current sporting director and national coach, Mounir Benhamza, during this period, with all our wishes for success and achievement for him and for all the players.”
