The latest example: a parody account for the San Marino national football team—widely regarded as one of the world’s weakest sides—mocked the Reds on social media following their latest defeat to Crystal Palace F.C. (0-3) in the English League Cup. In a post on X, the account ironically suggested that Liverpool "play against them" to help the club rediscover its smile.

This tongue-in-cheek jab quickly went viral, perfectly capturing the negative spiral the club is trapped in. The defeat to Palace marks Liverpool’s fifth straight loss in all competitions, following four Premier League defeats to Chelsea F.C., Manchester United F.C., Brentford F.C., and Crystal Palace again. Such a losing streak is a rare sight for a club so accustomed to fighting for silverware.

The joke carries even more weight when you consider that San Marino, ranked 210th in the FIFA rankings, took twenty years to notch a single official win—against Liechtenstein in 2024. In other words, being trolled by the “worst team in world football” highlights just how deep Liverpool’s crisis runs. Fans now fear that this viral quip might soon become the ultimate symbol of the English giant’s fall from grace.
