FIFA: IOC dismisses complaint against Gianni Infantino

FairSquare’s legal action against FIFA president Gianni Infantino has come to nothing.

Although the British human rights NGO appealed to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) ethics commission over what it called “repeated violations of political neutrality” by the FIFA president, their complaint was ultimately dismissed. The organization’s main grievance centered on Infantino’s perceived close relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to the IOC, this matter did not fall under its jurisdiction. “The IOC ethics commission found that, according to the Olympic Charter, every international federation maintains its independence and autonomy of governance,” a spokesperson for the organization explained.

This decision comes at a time when Gianni Infantino faces more criticism than ever after a series of controversies leading up to and during the 2026 World Cup. Notably, the FIFA president awarded a “FIFA Peace Prize” to Trump in December 2025.
