2026 World Cup: France placed €1.3 billion in bets

Just days after the final of the 2026 World Cup, statistics are pouring in from everywhere.

The tournament even set new records for sports betting in France, according to the National Gaming Authority. During the competition, the French wagered €1.3 billion online—twice as much as during the previous edition in Qatar.

The France-Spain semifinal (0-2), for example, alone generated €63 million in bets, a new record for a single event. This surpassed the previous record set by the Argentina-France final (3-3, 4-2 on penalties) in 2022, which saw €51 million wagered.

In total, 3.1 million players placed 113 million bets on one or more of the tournament’s 104 matches.
