With his brace against Senegal (3-1) in France's opening match at the 2026 World Cup, Kylian Mbappé became the top scorer in the history of Les Bleus, surpassing Olivier Giroud.

Speaking to Le Parisien on Wednesday, Olivier Giroud agreed to reflect on his compatriot's new record.

"As a symbol, I really liked that it happened during the World Cup, since I myself overtook 'Titi' Henry at the previous World Cup in Qatar. I'm glad it's Kylian who claimed it. It was inevitable. That's just how history goes, of course. The logical next step. He's going to break every record, we all know it. Not just the goal tally for France, but in a few years, the caps record too (Hugo Lloris with 145). He started so young with Les Bleus and has kept racking up the seasons. I hope Kyks scores at least 50 more and smashes through the 100-goal barrier. That would be really special. He's at the peak of his powers and still has some fantastic seasons ahead of him," said the Frenchman.
