FIFA President Gianni Infantino is seriously considering increasing the number of teams participating in the next World Cup, according to French journalist Romain Molina.

The decision is being discussed: will the number of teams be increased?

According to the report, the push for this move goes beyond pure sports logic. With the FIFA presidential vote on the horizon, Infantino is said to be courting favor from African federations—offering them a larger presence at the World Cup in return for their political backing.

Molina further suggests that African leaders might leverage their backing to push for changes to FIFA’s governing rules. Should that happen, Infantino could stand for reelection after his present term ends.
