Lamkel Zé set for a fresh start in China

Didier Lamkel Zé will soon be a free agent as he will not extend his stay with Sint-Truiden VV in Belgium. The Cameroonian international is reportedly set to join Qingdao Hainiu in China on a deal lasting approximately six months.

Just six months after his return to Belgium, Didier Lamkel Zé is already packing his bags for a new adventure. Signed on January 8, the 28-year-old midfielder from Cameroon played only 11 matches for Sint-Truiden VV, scoring four goals in the Pro League and being dropped from the squad twice. It’s been a typically turbulent half-season, as is often the case during his stints in Belgium—Lamkel Zé has kept himself in the headlines, sometimes for the right reasons, but more often for the wrong ones.

Didier Lamkel Zé still attracts suitors

The Bertoua native has decided to seize an opportunity in China—a league still missing from his CV, but one that is rapidly expanding. According to several sources, including the Chinese local press and specialized websites, the deal with Qingdao Hainiu, a top-flight club, is set for six months. Once he secures his visa and passes a medical, the Cameroonian will join his compatriot Michael Ngadeu Ngadjui, who already plays for Beijing Guoan.

This new challenge will add to Lamkel Zé’s already diverse career: he started in France (Niort, Metz), had spells in Belgium (Antwerp, Kortrijk, Sint-Truiden), went on loan to Slovakia (Dunajska Streda), Russia (Khimki), Morocco (Wydad), and Turkey (Karagumruk, Hatayspor). The story of Lamkel Zé is one of undeniable talent mixed with recurring disciplinary issues. Several clubs have ended their association with him, citing his "unique personality."
