Mali: Anthony Da Silva officially takes charge as Eagles head coach
After being appointed in early June 2026, Anthony Da Silva assumed his duties on the sixth of the same month as head coach of the Mali national team. The French-Portuguese coach, who succeeds Tom Saintfiet, was introduced to the public during a press conference in Bamako.
Anthony Da Silva has signed a three-year contract running until 2029 as Mali's head coach. His mission at the helm of the Eagles is clear: to lead Mali to qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with qualifiers starting in September, and to set the team's sights on the 2030 World Cup.
This is Da Silva's first time managing a national team. From 2019 to 2022, he served as assistant coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. At club level, he has worked mainly in Portugal, most recently with ACSM Politehnica in Romania's second division. He has been a free agent since November 2025.
During the press conference, the president of the Malian Football Federation, Mamadou, known as Baba Cissé, reiterated the two sporting objectives. He also emphasized the ambition to "restructure Malian football" in collaboration with the national technical department and youth team coaches.
