Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca may soon have a promising new weapon to deploy on the right side of his defense. According to transfer insider Nicolo Schira, Manchester City have opened negotiations with Atalanta over the signing of 21-year-old full-back Marco Palestra.

The young Italian, who spent the current season on loan at Cagliari, has caught the attention of City's recruitment team. In 37 appearances for the Sardinian club, Palestra found the net once and set up four goals for his teammates. His market value, according to Transfermarkt, is currently estimated at €35 million.

While Atalanta are said to be open to discussions, they have placed a hefty €70 million price tag on their young talent. City, however, have kicked off the bidding with an initial offer of €50 million. Sources suggest the two clubs are likely to find common ground at around €60 million, after which the transfer is expected to be finalized and announced. If the deal goes through, Maresca could find himself with an exciting new option to strengthen his full-back ranks.
