Manchester United renews pursuit of Carlos Baleba

Manchester United is actively working to strengthen its midfield. While the English club has already agreed personal terms with Frenchman Manu Koné, the Red Devils have also reignited their interest in Cameroonian international Carlos Baleba, according to Sky Sports.

Following the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, the Manchester board is still looking to sign a defensively-minded midfielder to strengthen a key area ahead of a demanding season across both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Baleba remains the priority despite a complex situation

Carlos Baleba has long been on Manchester United's radar. The club already tried to sign him during the previous summer transfer window, but Brighton's financial demands, estimated at over £100 million, put a halt to negotiations.

According to Sky Sports, United has recently made new moves to reopen discussions. However, no official contact has been established between the two clubs, as Brighton remains firm on its valuation. On their side, Manchester United believes that a compromise will be essential to get the deal done.

The Red Devils value the 21-year-old at around £50 million—far below the £75 to £100 million asked by the Seagulls.

Brighton determined to keep their Cameroonian gem

Brighton is keen to retain Carlos Baleba. The English side wants to avoid a repeat of last summer's turmoil, when speculation around a move affected the Cameroonian's performances.

Signed in 2023 from Lille for around £15 million, Baleba is under contract with the Seagulls until 2028, with an option for an extra year. He has already resumed pre-season training and is set to join the club's training camp in France in the coming days.

Manchester United therefore continues to assess several midfield profiles. While Manu Koné appears to be the most realistic short-term option, Carlos Baleba remains the top target—provided the two clubs can bridge the significant gap in their valuations.
