Mercato: Vincent Aboubakar set to join Bodrumspor

The Cameroonian striker Vincent Aboubakar has reached an agreement with Bodrumspor and is expected to arrive in Turkey tonight to finalize his transfer.

Vincent Aboubakar is on the verge of taking on a new challenge in Turkey. The Cameroonian forward, who already left his mark on Beşiktaş’s history, has agreed terms with Bodrumspor, a 1. Lig side, and is due to arrive in Bodrum tonight to complete his move.

The news was broken by Reşat Can Özbudak, who announced the imminent arrival of the Cameroon international in Bodrum. According to the journalist, Aboubakar is set to finalize the last details of his transfer on site, with the official announcement expected in the coming hours.

The 34-year-old was most recently on the books of Neftçi PFK in Azerbaijan. Now, he is preparing to return to a league he knows inside out. Aboubakar notably wore the Beşiktaş shirt several times, establishing himself as one of the most impactful foreign strikers in Turkish football in recent years.

The Cameroonian also played for Hatayspor after his stint at Beşiktaş, further demonstrating his affinity for Turkish football. His experience and proven goal-scoring ability convinced Bodrumspor to bet on him to bolster their attacking lineup.

A new chapter for the Cameroonian striker

At Bodrum, Aboubakar will chiefly bring a wealth of experience. A Cameroon international since 2010, he has featured in several major tournaments with the Indomitable Lions and was one of the heroes of Cameroon’s 2017 AFCON triumph, scoring the winning goal in the final against Egypt.

His club career has also taken him to Portugal with FC Porto, France with Valenciennes and Lorient, as well as Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr. But it’s in Turkey where he truly forged his reputation, with his clinical finishing and strong character leaving a mark on the fans.

For Bodrumspor, currently competing in Turkey’s second division, his arrival is a real coup. The club is banking on the experience of a striker accustomed to big occasions to fuel their ambitions.

If the final formalities go as planned, Vincent Aboubakar looks set to quickly become Bodrumspor’s new attacking star.
