Netherlands: Xavi Hernández unveils his first squad with the Oranje

For his first camp in charge of the Netherlands, Xavi Hernández has called up 26 players ahead of four Nations League fixtures.

A new chapter is beginning for the Netherlands. Appointed this summer to succeed Ronald Koeman, Xavi Hernández unveiled his very first squad as Oranje head coach on Friday. The Spanish coach has selected 26 players for a particularly busy international window, with four Nations League matches on the schedule.

Xavi Hernández had been appointed Netherlands head coach until 2030 after the 2026 World Cup. This first call-up therefore officially marks the start of his tenure on the pitch.

Goalkeepers: Mark Flekken, Robin Roefs, Bart Verbruggen.

Defenders: Nathan Aké, Virgil van Dijk, Denzel Dumfries, Jeremie Frimpong, Lutsharel Geertruida, Jorrel Hato, Jan Paul van Hecke, Jurriën Timber, Micky van de Ven.

Midfielders: Ryan Gravenberch, Teun Koopmeiners, Tijjani Reijnders, Kenneth Taylor, Quinten Timber, Joey Veerman, Gjivai Zechiël.

Forwards: Ruben van Bommel, Brian Brobbey, Cody Gakpo, Justin Kluivert, Noa Lang, Donyell Malen, Crysencio Summerville.

Four matches scheduled during the international break

The Oranje will begin this sequence on September 24 against Germany. Three days later, they will travel to face Serbia. The Netherlands will then continue their camp against Greece on October 1, before facing the Serbians again on October 4.

This international window will therefore allow Xavi to make his competitive debut at the helm of the national team, with four official matches played over an 11-day period.

The Netherlands are coming off a cruel elimination at the 2026 World Cup

The Dutch will now attempt to bounce back after their elimination in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup. Facing Morocco on June 29 in Monterrey, they had been held to a 1-1 draw after extra time before losing 3-2 in the penalty shootout.

That defeat brought Ronald Koeman’s tenure to an end and paved the way for Xavi’s arrival. The Nations League is now the new head coach’s first task with the Oranje.
