Official: Neymar stays at Santos... but not for long
Santos FC can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Neymar has agreed to extend his contract with the Brazilian club. Good news, no doubt. But the deal only runs until December 2025.
The fans were hoping for more. At least a one-year contract, giving their idol a chance to settle in, regain his rhythm, and stake his claim for the 2026 World Cup. But negotiations stalled. The result: a short, provisional, almost symbolic agreement.
Since his return, Neymar has struggled to impress. Twelve matches, three goals, three assists. Not enough for a player of his caliber. Worse, he missed nine games, hampered by injuries and, more recently, a positive COVID-19 test. Carlo Ancelotti, the Brazil coach, has made it clear: Neymar is in his plans. Provided he plays. Keeps going. And above all, finds his best form again.
In the meantime, Santos still gets to enjoy their number 10. But for how much longer? The countdown has already begun.
