Bafana Bafana defender Olwethu Makhanya has reacted to clinching the William Hill Premiership Player of the Month for September.

This comes after the 22-year-old centre-half helped Rangers win all four matches in the Scottish topflight division last month.

He was part of a stingy defence that conceded one goal as Derek Mclnnes' side beat Falkirk, Motherwell, St Mirren, and bitter rivals Celtic.

Makhanya expressed gratitude to his teammates and the club's staff for helping with his swift integration, having joined from Philadelphia Union in July.

“I am really proud to receive this award, and I’d like to thank my teammates and all the staff for their support,” the South Africa international told Rangers' media department.

“They have helped me settle in and feel part of the group, and that makes a big difference when you come to a new club. The coaches are helping me improve every day, and my teammates give me confidence on the pitch.

“I’m pleased to have been able to contribute to the team. I’m grateful to the supporters for the backing they have given me. I want to keep working hard, keep improving and help the team get the results we want.

Rangers, meanwhile, climbed to second place on the log standings, and trail log leaders Celtic with two points, having picked up 16 points in seven outings.

The 55-time Scottish champions return to action with a clash against Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday, as they look to maintain their winning streak.
