Pedro retires… He did what Ronaldo and Messi could never do
2010 World Cup winner Pedro has decided to bring his career to an end. He achieved something that even Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have never done.
The Spaniard announced his retirement in a message on Instagram: “I feel that the time has come. The time to take a step forward and begin a new chapter in my life. I am hanging up my boots, proud to have lived my dream and grateful to all the people who have stood by me in making it a reality. Thank you to football for making me so happy.”
He said goodbye to Lazio last year after five seasons with the Biancocelesti (209 matches, 19 assists and 39 goals).
A well-stocked trophy cabinet
Pedro won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 with La Roja (65 caps, 17 goals). He lifted three Champions League trophies with Barça (2009, 2011 and 2015), a Europa League with Chelsea (2019), as well as UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup titles.

Compared with Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, neither of the two has won the Europa League, while the Portuguese has never won the World Cup either.
However, Pedro was missing one of the most prestigious individual honours: the Ballon d’Or (eight for Messi and five for Ronaldo).
