Real Betis: Nobel Mendy's transfer to Rangers falls through
Nobel Mendy / Real Betis

Nobel Mendy will not be joining Rangers after all. The Senegalese defender's transfer from Real Betis has collapsed following the results of his medical examination. Both clubs had already agreed on a financial package worth €3 million.

The 21-year-old defender seemed set for a future in Scotland after several days of intensive negotiations between Real Betis and Rangers. The Andalusian and Scottish club officials had reached a financial compromise, including a 20% sell-on clause in favor of the Seville side.

What went wrong?

As planned, Nobel Mendy underwent his medical in Barcelona on August 13 before heading to Glasgow. But, unexpectedly, the transfer process came to a halt after this check-up. According to several sources, it was the medical examination results that convinced Rangers to pull the plug. The Ibrox management decided to abandon the negotiations after reviewing the outcome of the player's physical tests. This surprise decision now casts doubt on the Senegalese defender's immediate future, as he remains in Seville.

Manuel Pellegrini had already excluded Nobel Mendy from his plans for the upcoming season. The Chilean coach had left the defender out of pre-season preparations and recent team training sessions, confirming Real Betis' intention to part ways with the former Paris FC player. What next for the Senegalese international? To be continued…
