Rulani Mokwena continues perfect start at Pyramids
Rulani Mokwena continued his perfect start in charge of Pyramids FC after an emphatic 4-1 victory over Tala'ea El Gaish in the Egytian Premier League.
The 2025 African champions broke the deadlock in the sixth minute through Mohanad Lasheen, before Mostafa Ziko made it 2-0 nine minutes later.
El Gaish reduced the deficit in the 34th minute, thanks to Ahmed Tarek, while Pyramids had a goal disallowed on the stroke of half-time.
Mokwena's men restored the two-goal cushion as second half substitute Mahmoud Saber made the net bulge in the 77th minute.
Zalaka completed the rout from the penalty spot one minute from time, with Pyramids claiming the all-important maximum points away from home.
Pyramids are two points clear at the summit of the table with 21 points amassed from seven outings, albeit played one game more than second-placed Al Ahly.
Appointed at the beginning of the season as a successor to Krunoslav Jurcic, Mokwena has won his first 11 matches in charge of Pyramids.
He was tasked with clinching the CAF Champions League, the Egyptian Premier League, and lift domestic cup titles in the process.
Whether the South African mentor will meet the objectives remains to be seen, with North African teams notorious for being trigger-happy.
Pyramids swing back to action with the return leg of their Champions League second preliminary round tie with El Merriekh Bentiu, and hold a 1-0 advantage.
