Simeone confirms Julián Álvarez is 100% ready for the derby against Real Madrid!
Despite the strained relationship between Atlético Madrid and Julián Álvarez since the start of the season stemming from his declared desire to leave for Barcelona, his “dream club” it appears that the relationship has recently returned to normal.
Ahead of the derby against Real Madrid in Matchday 7 of this season's La Liga, Argentine coach Diego Simeone confirmed that Argentine star Julián Álvarez would be ready to play against Real Madrid, regardless of the amount of playing time he receives.
Simeone confirms Julián Álvarez's participation against Real Madrid
Julian Alvarez made his desire to leave Atletico Madrid abundantly clear over the summer, and the fallout has been harsh. Since then, every time he has stepped onto the pitch, the fans have greeted him with boos. He didn't even feature in the club's last two matches, yet Atletico remain steadfast in their commitment to bringing him back into the fold. Simeone has confirmed that the Argentine will be involved tomorrow in some capacity:
"He will be with us. We will decide whether he starts the match from the beginning or comes on in the second half," he said.
It's a stance that commands respect — both from the club and their manager. They turned down offers to sell him, and now they refuse to soften their position simply because a player is unhappy. Whether he likes it or not, they intend to keep using him.
How effective he'll actually be is a separate matter altogether. But the only way to silence the boos is to keep giving him minutes until his performances win the crowd over and their hostility fades. Simeone is nothing if not admirably stubborn, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him come out on top in the end.
