The UNIFFAC tournament serving as a qualifier for the Africa U20 Cup of Nations is underway. Cameroon, the host nation, beat Chad 3-0 in the opening match on Monday at Olembé Stadium in Yaoundé.

An exceptional first half

The U20 Lions made the difference in the opening 45 minutes. They scored three goals before the break and quickly put the match beyond reach. Popess Manguele opened the scoring for the Cubs. Samuel Fonyuy Achu then scored twice to make it 3-0. Chad never managed to fight their way back into the match. With this victory, Cameroon have taken a major step towards the semi-finals. Yvan Kenmoe's team put on an impressive display in front of their home crowd.

What lies ahead in Group A

Cameroon will face the Central African Republic in their next Group A match. A victory would send the Lions straight through to the last four. Chad will look to bounce back against the same opponent. The Sao must win if they are to hope to secure one of the two qualifying spots for the semi-finals. In the other match of the day, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the reigning champions, will face Gabon at 4 p.m., Yaoundé time, in Group B.
