UNIFFAC U20: Gabon hold defending champions DR Congo

Unlike Group A, where Cameroon thrashed Chad 3-0, there was no winner to open Group B. The Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon played out a 0-0 draw in the first match of the UNIFFAC tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Defending champions held at the start

The defending champions were held in their opening match. The U20 Leopards were held to a draw by a solid and well-organised U20 Panthers side. A disappointing start for DR Congo, who prepared in Dakar with two defeats (1-2 and 0-2) against Senegal's U20 team.

Republic of Congo lying in wait

This draw suits the Republic of Congo. The Red Devils can take advantage of the result. Congo (Brazzaville) are scheduled to face Gabon in three days, on October 15. The winner will take a major step towards the semi-finals.

The group's Congolese derby is scheduled for October 18, when DR Congo face Congo Brazzaville. As a reminder, the top two teams in the group will advance to the final four, the last step before the Ghana 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
