Venezia: Akor Adams finally opens his Serie A account
The image that stands out from the evening is Akor Adams’ rage after scoring. The Nigerian striker finally opened his Serie A account against Fiorentina, even though Venezia eventually suffered a heavy 4-2 home defeat.
After three league appearances without a goal or assist, Adams finally found the net in the 22nd minute. Set up by Gianluca Busio, he unleashed a right-footed shot from the right side of the box that flew into the far top corner. Venezia took the lead thanks to Adams’ first Serie A goal in the club’s colours.
The opener brought an end to a frustrating wait for the Nigerian. After three league games without a single attacking contribution, he was inevitably under pressure to deliver. His furious celebration after scoring added even more weight to the moment.
Adams had already made a decisive contribution in the Coppa Italia this season. Against Modena, he scored twice and provided an assist in Venezia’s 3-2 victory. It was therefore only in the league that he was still waiting for his first goal.
A season to prove himself after Sevilla
The Nigerian arrived in Italy after an encouraging season with Sevilla, during which he scored 10 goals in La Liga. Venezia will now be hoping he can rediscover that efficiency in Serie A.
His goal against Fiorentina ultimately earned his team nothing, as the visitors came from behind to win 4-1. Adams, however, now has his first league goal of the season. His account is finally open.
