Neymar fiercely denied reports of bullying young Santos teammates during a turbulent 2-2 draw against Chapecoense slamming the rumors on Instagram.
Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte initially sparked the controversy, claiming the veteran forward unleashed his frustration on two junior squad members during the halftime break.
According to the report, Neymar allegedly called Gabriel Bontempo an "idiot" and mockingly suggested he transfer to Chapecoense, the team currently sitting at the bottom of the league table.
The publication also stated he harshly questioned the technical abilities of Joao Ananias who ironically went on to score an own goal in the 62nd minute.
Setting the record straight
Refusing to let the narrative spiral, the former Barcelona & Paris Saint Germain star took directly to Instagram to clear the air. In a sharp video statement, he categorically labeled the reports as malicious fabrications.
He clarified that while voices were indeed raised, it was a collective demand for better performance from the entire squad, not a targeted attack on the youth.
"I will not accept these lies you spread on the internet" Neymar stated firmly.
He challenged anyone to verify the events with his teammates noting that senior players like Lucas, Willian Arao, Gabi and Gabriel Brazao all participated in the heated discussion.
He emphasized that intense locker room exchanges are a normal part of competitive football adding that those spreading such rumors have clearly never been part of a real team.
