A Serie C clash between Monopoli & Foggia descended into chaos on Sunday 19 April after masked supporters invaded the pitch at the Stadio Veneziani forcing players to run for safety during a dramatic interruption in the closing stages of the match.

Pitch invasion sparks panic

The incident unfolded late in the game, with Monopoli leading 1-0 when a group of Foggia supporters broke through security barriers and entered the field.

Several of them were reportedly wearing masks and caps while others had thrown flares and objects moments earlier.

Scenes quickly turned chaotic. Players from both teams sprinted toward the dressing rooms while some sought cover behind advertising boards to avoid confrontation.

Security forces intervene

Security personnel including officers in plain clothes, rushed onto the pitch to contain the situation. At least one pitch invader was restrained and handcuffed in full view of the crowd while others were stopped before reaching the players.

The referee immediately halted the match, with play suspended for approximately 10 minute as authorities worked to restore order inside the stadium.

Match resumes under tension

Once the situation was brought under control, the game resumed and was played to completion without further incidents. The score remained unchanged, with Monopoli securing a 1-0 victory.. a result that appeared to intensify frustration among the visiting supporters.
