DR Congo international Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be sidelined for several weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained during his Aston Villa team's match against Newcastle United on Saturday evening, in the seventh round of the Premier League.

The right-back was forced to leave the pitch around the 77th minute after feeling pain that led him to request a substitution, despite the strong performance he had delivered in the match which ended in a 1-0 victory for Aston Villa.

Wan-Bissaka started the match for the « Villans », while his compatriot Yoane Wissa was in Newcastle's starting XI. After the Congolese defender went off injured, Wissa went over to check on him, a scene that prompted numerous reactions from supporters of the Congolese national team.

Unai Emery provides an update

For his part, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery discussed his player's injury, saying: « I think Wan-Bissaka injured his hamstring; he put in an excellent performance. »

The length of the Congolese defender's absence is not yet known, with the medical staff awaiting the results of examinations to assess the severity of the injury and determine his return date.

Pending clarification of the situation, his absence could last anywhere from several weeks to eight weeks, depending on the severity of the injury. However, this timeframe remains merely a possibility and has not yet been confirmed.
