Moroccan coach Abdeslam Ouaddou praised the performance of his goalkeeper, Sipho Chaine, during the match against African Stars at the National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana—a game in which the team secured an important victory before returning to South Africa.

A second-half goal from Tshepang Moremi handed Orlando Pirates the edge in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round clash.

The Buccaneers now welcome the Windhoek side to Johannesburg on Friday, aiming to seal their place in the group stages of the CAF interclub premier competition. Following Chaine's clean sheet, the Moroccan mentor praised the goalkeeper's value beyond just shot-stopping, underlining the leadership and organisation he expects from his number one.

How did Abdulsalam Odu support Sipho Chaine?

According to the post-match press conference, the Moroccan mentor reflected on Chaine's clean sheet and stressed that the goalkeeper's value extends beyond making saves, highlighting the leadership and organisation he demands from his number one.

"You see, in my game model, in the way that I'm coaching, I have always given importance to the whole team, of course, to the players," said Ouaddou. "But you always need a spine, and the spine is the goalkeeper, the pair of central defenders, the six, the ten and the nine. And I need to have a leader in every line."

"It's important to have a well-oiled machine. You need to have strategic leaders in every line."

The Pirates mentor went on to explain that figures such as Chaine, Deon Hotto and Nkosinathi Sibisi must grasp the team's approach thoroughly enough to reinforce instructions during matches.

"Because sometimes when you play in front of 60,000 people, the players cannot hear you. Of course, we work during the week on the principle that we want to see on the pitch."
