World Cup 2026: Kalidou Koulibaly aims high for Senegal

Three days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, Kalidou Koulibaly has made no secret of his ambitions for Senegal.

For this 2026 tournament, the Lions of Teranga find themselves in a tough group with France, Norway, and Iraq. The Senegalese squad is determined to shake things up. The Senegal captain believes his team has all the qualities needed to compete with the world’s best.

"We know we’re capable of achieving great things, and I hope we will. We’ll also keep our feet on the ground. It’s a World Cup, we know it will be very tough, but we also know we have the talent, quality, humility, and professionalism to go as far as possible. Our goal is to make Senegalese fans dream. I dream big. For me, Senegal is the best team in the world. (...) We know we’re capable of having a great World Cup. Our expectations are very high. We hope to at least reach the quarterfinals, that’s our first objective. After that, we all have a dream in the back of our minds." Koulibaly told RMC.
