Senegal thought they had secured qualification. In this opening match of the Round of 16 at the World Cup against Belgium, the Lions of Teranga came out roaring, taking a 2-0 lead before being pegged back in the dying moments of the clash.

After several unsuccessful attempts, Habib Diarra, who also found the net against Iraq (5-0), opened the scoring in the 25th minute.
Ismaïla Sarr doubled the lead early in the second half. After a sublime long ball from Moussa Niakhaté, he showcased his pace and strength, outpacing the Belgian defense and beating Thibaut Courtois to slot home the second in the 51st minute.

The Lions seemed to have everything under control, but the match was turned on its head in a crazy finale. Romelu Lukaku pulled one back in the 86th minute. Moments later, Youri Tielemans leveled the score at 2-2 in the 89th, sending both teams into extra time.

After a complicated group stage with two defeats (1-3 against France and 2-3 against Norway), followed by a resounding 5-0 win and last-gasp qualification, Senegal will need to gather their strength to avoid further surprises.
Now it's time for extra time.
