Zamalek vs USM Alger CAF Confederation Cup final dates confirmed for May
Zamalek officially confirmed the schedule for their CAF Confederation Cup final against Algeria’s USM Alger, with first leg set for Saturday 9 May in Algiers and the return leg to be played in Cairo on Saturday, 16 May .
The announcement was made via the club’s official Facebook page.
Two leg final set for May
The Egyptian side will travel to Algeria for the opening leg before hosting the decisive second leg a week later in Cairo.
The two match will determine the winner of one of Africa’s major club competitions.
Both teams arrive in the final through tightly contested semi finals setting up a balanced showdown between two recent continental contenders.
Zamalek edge past CR Belouizdad
Zamalek secured their place in the final after overcoming Algerian side CR Belouizdad. The Egyptian club progressed with a narrow 1-0 aggregate victory showing defensive discipline across the two leg.
The result kept alive their hopes of adding another continental title to their record.
USM Alger advance on away goals
USM Alger reached the final under different circumstances. The Algerian side advanced past Olympic Safi on the away goals rule after a 1-1 draw away from home in second leg.
The first leg had ended 0-0 leaving the tie finely balanced before USM Alger edged through.
