Spain is being held by Cape Verde (0-0) at halftime in this match, which is part of the opening day of Group H.

Right from the start, the Spaniards took control of the game, stringing passes together in front of the opposition's box against a very deep Cape Verdean defensive block. Under intense pressure, the Blue Sharks stayed united and managed to contain the Iberian attacks. Spain's dominance, however, proved fruitless with not a single clear chance in the opening 20 minutes.

Just before the break, Torres missed two huge opportunities—first hitting the crossbar with a volley, then seeing his shot saved by Vozinha. The Cape Verdean keeper also pulled off a spectacular stop to deny Laporte's header.
