Good news for Togo's Hawks this Wednesday. With less than two days to go before the match against Burundi at Kégué on the opening day of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Djené Diakonam has rejoined his teammates in training.

Uncertainty lifted

The 34-year-old centre-back, captain of the Togo national team, had caused concern on Sunday during Getafe's 1-0 victory over Malaga in La Liga. After picking up an injury, he had to leave the pitch in the 65th minute, and his fitness remained uncertain. Since Monday, Djené Diakonam had been absent from the squad. This Wednesday, the Getafe defender looked to be in fairly good physical shape during the various exercises set up by Patrice Neveu.

Two crucial fixtures

His return to training dispels much of the doubt ahead of the opening day of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. After Burundi this Friday, Togo's Hawks will fly to Harare to face Zambia on September 29.
