Togo began their training camp in Lomé on Monday ahead of the first two qualifying matchdays for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Djene Diakonam has not yet joined the squad because of a fitness concern at club level.

The coaching staff waits

Captain of the Togo national team, the 34-year-old centre-back was injured on Sunday during Getafe's 1-0 victory over Malaga in La Liga and had to leave the pitch in the 65th minute. His fitness remains uncertain for the Sparrowhawks' two important fixtures, and his situation is concerning head coach Patrice Neveu.

For now, I am waiting for Djené to return, as he had a problem in his last match. I will speak to him on the phone shortly. I hope all his medical results are positive so that he can arrive in the best possible condition.

Having earned 93 caps since 2012, Djené Dakonam remains an important part of the Togo Sparrowhawks' setup, as they face Burundi and then Zambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
