An away trip to the African champions with another trophy at stake: USM Alger face a major challenge in Pretoria on Sunday, November 8. The Red and Blacks take on Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, targeting a second CAF Super Cup triumph after their success in 2023. Miguel Cardoso’s side, meanwhile, can draw on home support and strong recent results in domestic competitions.

Both clubs chasing a second Super Cup title

The final brings together the Confederation Cup winners and the CAF Champions League champions. USMA beat Al Ahly to lift the trophy in 2023. Sundowns, who defeated TP Mazembe in 2017, are also seeking a second title in this competition, which is decided over a single match.

Sundowns and USMA: recent form and league positions

USMA are unbeaten in their last three league matches: a 1-0 win over JS Saoura, a 2-2 draw with CR Belouizdad and a 2-0 victory away to CS Constantine, courtesy of a Mohamed El Amine Ramdaoui brace. In the provisional standings on November 6, the Algiers club sit fifth in Ligue 1 Mobilis with 14 points from seven games, three behind leaders CRB.

Sundowns approach the final following a 4-1 league victory over Durban City and a 1-0 win against Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout quarter-finals. The Pretoria club lead the Betway Premiership with 26 points from ten games, having recorded eight wins and two draws. They are one point ahead of Orlando Pirates, who have a game in hand.
