Al-Merrikh Bentiu Pyramids FC continue their run in the CAF Champions League. Having already won 2-0 in the first leg in Kenya, the 2025 African champions ran riot in Cairo with a resounding 5-1 victory over Gor Mahia.

A masterclass in Cairo

From the kick-off, the Egyptians took control. Walid El-Karti opened the scoring with a header in the 27th minute, before Nasser Maher doubled the lead ten minutes later. Just before half-time, Youssef Ibrahim “Obama” made it 3-0.

In the second half, Pyramids FC saw out the game. In stoppage time, substitutes Mostafa Abdel-Raouf “Ziko” and Mahmoud Abdel-Hafiz “Zalaka” scored in quick succession to add to the tally. The final score was 5–1 on the night, 7–1 on aggregate. A comfortable qualification for the second round.

A consolation goal for Gor Mahia

The Kenyans pulled one back through David Okoth a minute after the score became 3–0, offering a brief glimmer of hope before half-time. It wasn’t quite enough overall, and Gor Mahia are out of the competition at the first round.

Pyramids will face Al-Merrikh Bentiu, the South Sudanese champions, in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
